The Truth About Human Nature
If you had to say what you thought humans were like, deep down, what would you say? Would you say humans are caring, thoughtful, intelligent, and compassionate? You’d probably also say deceitful, greedy, and selfish. The latter is much closer to the truth. The truth is, humans are deeply violent, sexual creatures, full of rage and anger. This is true of all humans, even great thinkers like Einstein and Newton. Humans are also completely selfish, every action performed for some level of personal gain.
Since humans are this way, you might wonder how we have become such a successful race. There is a mask which covers our dark side, and enables us to live safely. That mask is society and government. As soon as humans were around, there was order. Without it, we would all have died; it came about as naturally as our opposable thumbs. Society is a human product but is not human; it points out what is right and wrong, rewards those who do right, and punishes those who do wrong. Importantly, there are different degrees of right, wrong, punishment, and reward (stealing a candy bar isn’t the same as murdering someone).
Many of the “good” human qualities exist because of two things; society, and the necessity to survive. Even if there was no society, many people would still help each other, because they need help in return to survive, and they have an inborn desire not to see their fellow humans die. However, this desire is a result of advanced thought and cultured living. If all thought was wiped clean, as well as memory, what would be left? Murder. It all comes back to that. Without thought, we would all just kill each other until we were all dead.
Advanced “bad” qualities, come much like advanced good qualities. They can develop because of society and the desire to live, or in many cases, live well. All humans are inclined toward bad qualities, but they can be overridden with the help of society. However, society only hides the qualities; it does not erase them. They are always there. Humans are also full of errors, constantly make minor and major mistakes, and are easily influenced. Another deadly ability is the one that allows the covering of true intentions. All of this is why religion, and many conspiracy theories, can’t be trusted. The origin of it all could be because of a masked intention, and followers were easily influenced by the persuasiveness of the initiator, and then the followers influenced more people, and it spread like a virus. Humans are basically violent, but you cannot ignore the complex layers that hide it and give us the abilities and intelligence we have today. The basic instinct simply influences our decisions and corrupts us. The base will never be unleashed unless everything else is wiped out, because our upper-layer protocols prevent it from coming out.
Although this is a little offtopic, all of this supports the claim of a nonexistent God. If we were made from him, why would our base be so horrible? And as stated, even Jesus could have been a deceitful being who tricked everyone into following him, or his followers could have misinterpreted him. Anyways, religion is all way too shaky and unfounded to base your life on, and the facts and logic go against it. Ironically, it could be religion itself, a large part of our lives, that helps hold society together. In the Middle Ages, the only reason peasants endured hard lives and did all the farming was because they thought they would go to heaven. The reason religion exists is also because of one of the base human instincts; survive. With religion, you don’t ever die, you continue in the after life. People created it as a pathetic way to ensure eternal life, and other people listened because, deep down, they wanted that more than anything else.
