Credit Cards

Credit cards have become a necessity in society nowadays, you can't go anywhere without having to use one. That's why it's imperative to maintain a good credit rating and use your credit card smart. After all, without a credit card, it's harder to live, and especially hard to shop online.

Maintaining a good credit rating is relatively simple. The main things to do are simply pay your credit card payments on time, and never put too much on your credit card in one month. Keep a balance between using cash, checks, and your credit card, because if you stress either one of those sources too much, the effects could be dire. To raise your credit rating, you need to use your credit card, to show the credit card companies you are a valuable person to have and that you can bring them money. As was said, while it is important to use your credit card to raise your credit rating, if you use it too much and can't pay your bills, then your credit rating will fall, you are less likely to get approved for new, better cards, and your APR could skyrocket.

One of the most important things to look for when choosing a credit card is the APR. A lot of cards give you a period of time with 0% APR, which is fantastic. However, it usually takes a good credit rating to get a card like that, which is one of the reasons it is important to have a good credit rating. Also, the maximum limit on your card is something to look at. If you max out your credit card, then you can't use it for some time, and it's not good if you don't have access to a credit card.

Another thing that lowers your credit rating is having too many credit cards. One of the easiest ways to maintain a high credit score is only having one main credit card. However, it's okay to have more, but too many can be extremely harmful. Plus, by having more than one card, it can become tempting to buy things out of your budget. Remember, owning lots of credit cards can have a psychological effect on you, as well as lower your credit score.

If you are young and perhaps don't want to take on the responsibility of having a regular credit card, or can't get one, prepaid credit cards are just as good. They are very safe to use, as if it gets stolen, all you lose is what's on the card. Plus, when using it online, it gives more peace of mind, knowing that if you get scammed, they can't take a large amount of money. Prepaid credit cards are easy to get and easy to refill (although some small charges apply).

PayPal credit cards or debit cards are a great thing to have. If you don't have a lot of money in your bank, but you do in your PayPal account, you can use your PayPal money offline. So, if you enjoy using PayPal a lot online, you can start using it offline too. However, it doesn't come with some of the safety features that a regular credit card does, but it still is easy to cancel if you lose it.

Credit cards are great to use as long as you control them. They are useful, helpful, and make buying things a whole lot easier. But it's important to remember that people go into thousands of dollars of debt because of them, and the same thing could happen to you.
