Little Miss Sunshine

When I came out of this movie, I couldn't decide if I liked it or not. I thought it was going to be a lot funnier, and while there were some very funny parts, it wasn't what I thought. However, when I woke up the next day, I decided it was great. While I was watching, the thing that I kept thinking about was that the movie was real. Not realistic, real. It was also sad, the family didn't have a very good life. They had no money, a bad relationship, and a very, very bad car. While Steve Carrell wasn't his optimal funny self, he still had that "essence" that is associated with him. Throughout the movie, the family is assaulted with tragedy after tragedy. First, they find out that their whole financial future is shattered, then the grandfather dies (and they steal his body from the hospital, funny scene), and then the boy finds out he can't join the Air Force because he's colorblind. I was upset when the grandfather died, since he was so funny, and he was the one who taught Olive, the little girl, her routine for the Little Miss Sunshine pangeant. When the pangeant finally came, and she went on to do her talent, it was like nothing anybody expected. She danced to "Superfreak", and began stripping. And she was 7! The judges tried to stop her, but the whole family then came up and started dancing. It was a good part, not only because it was funny, but because the father showed he really wasn't a jerk. In the beginning, he always said that there were only winners and losers, and was kind of mean to everyone, but as the movie progressed, he became nicer.

I give the movie a 90%, or if you like trigonometry and want to get into radians, a pi/two.
