As you most certainly know, Steve Irwin, a very great man, has been killed on September 4th, 2006. Although I have to admit that while I never watched his show or anything he's been it (except Dr. Dolittle 2, he made a cameo appearance in it), I do miss him. On the night of the day of his death, I was watching Animal Planet, which was showing a very long documentary about him. He was such a great man, full of energy and happiness, and he acted off-screen as he did on-screen. Not only was he nice and funny, but he was brave and courageous, risking his life for our entertainment. He also had two children, of eight and three years old, very young. He shouldn't have died. The cause of his death is one of the rarest, death by stingray.

Their have only been SEVENTEEN recorded deaths from stingrays, and the last one happened in 1945! Can you believe it, it was 61 years ago when someone was killed by a stingray. Irwin's friend, who was with him at his death, said it was a one-in-a-million chance he was killed by it. According to him, Irwin had accidentally cornered the stingray, and the stingray in fear turned around and shoved it's barb up into his chest. I can't remember if this is real or from a dream I had, but I think that the stingray's barb contains sulfuric acid. However, that knowledge could have come from a dream. I know for a fact, though, that the barb does contain toxins. It's weird, the barb hit Irwin directly in the heart, and if it had hit anywhere else, he would have probably lived. I just heard today that he pulled the barb out of his chest before dying, but I'm not sure, because the guy who said that confirmed it in one account and denied it in another. Until a report is released, we won't know.

Since Irwin's death was captured on film, there is rumor that it will be released, but I highly doubt it, and personally hope it is not. I don't want it being tossed around like a celebrity sex tape, that just wouldn't be right. It's horrible he had to die, but I don't think anyone will be forgetting him anytime soon. Oh, and another ironic thing, this is what he said in regards to if he was going to die:

""My number one rule is to keep that camera rolling. Even if it's shaky or slightly out of focus, I don't give a rip. Even if a big old alligator is chewing me up I want to go down and go, 'Crikey!' just before I die. That would be the ultimate for me."

At least part of his dream came true, he did die on camera. We'll miss you Steve, we will.
