Date of Entry: 10/23/06

Today is Mole Day, starting at 6:02am and ending at 6:02pm. Anyone who is familiar with the mole know that it represents 6.02 x 1023, so it makes sense that the day falls on 10/23 and starts at 6:02. This was a momentous day for me, I experienced something I never want to experience again. I was in my Networking class, and I was cutting the RJ-45 off a crossover cable because I didn't put the copper far enough up into it. Also, the wires were in the wrong order. So, first I took the crimper and tried to use the blade there to cut it off; didn't work. So I used a wire cutter, and still it wouldn't come off. So I took a scissors and cut it, and it worked just fine. One problem, I had overextended the scissors so much I had accidentally cut deep into my finger. The pain was unusually minimal, but it was weird looking at that hole in my finger. A guy looked at it, said "Whoah! You might need stitches for that", and I was scared, I didn't want stitches. I went to the instructor and showed him, he gave me a band-aid and started writing up a nurse's note. I tried to act like nothing was wrong, I put the band-aid on and then I started to go back to work. I stopped when I realized the blood had soaked through the whole band-aid, it was seeping around to the back of it and dropping off in droplets.

I started to run to the nurse, since blood was dropping onto the floor every few seconds. It got on my shoes and pants. I got there and the nurse looked at it, had me run water over it (and that hurt so much more than when it first got cut), and gauzed it up and had me apply pressure. After twenty minutes of that, I went to the hospital, where I stayed for three hours until I finally got stitched (it only took one stitch). First paperwork was filled out, then for an hour I had my hand soaking in some sterilized water (I think it's called saline solution or something, fancy name for water), then I got an X-Ray to see if there was any metal or stuff in there, and then I got it stitched. That was scary, because I found out the numbing shot was injected straight into the wound, and that was really scary (ow my finger is hurting a lot right now, it's hard to type this...) When they gave me it, it didn't hurt that much. They stitched it and I left, I come back in a week so it can be removed. I wish this didn't happen :(
